چکیده

~;There has been much documentation of differences in severity of disease, alteration of the disease pattern, development of overt or latent infection, and duration of the carrier state in animals of various ages. However, few attempts have been made to compare pathogenesis of disease at periods of susceptibility and refractoriness in order to gain insight into fundamental mechanisms involved. I t is often assumed that increased resistance developing with maturation is related to inability of the virus to multiply at the site of inoculation, or failure in dissemination caused by regional barriers so that the virus does not reach areas favorable for multiplication or ones in which damage may be lethal. This concept has been based largely upon the extensive and detailed investigations of vesicular stomatitis and equine encephalomyelitis infections by Sabin and Olitsky (2-4) who found that with maturation barriers to CNS invasion appeared at the peritoneum, the myoneural junction, the retina, and the anterior rhinencephalon. Coxsackie virus infection in mice is a host-virus system in which there are striking changes in resistance from marked susceptibility to relative refractoriness within a

Coxsackie B virus infection in coronary care unit patients.

It has been suggested that Coxsackie B virus infections may play a part in causing or triggering myocardial infarction. This study was designed to compare the incidence of such infections in Coronary Care Unit patients and normal controls. The choice of a suitable criterion for diagnosis of Coxsackie infection is discussed fully. Two hundred and fifty admissions to a Coronary Care Unit and 100 ...

Coxsackie and mumpsvirus infection in a prospective study of acute pancreatitis.

A prospective study of 116 patients with acute pancreatitis included routine screening for evidence of viral infection. Five patients (all female) exhibited significant rising antibody titres to Coxsackie B or mumpsvirus, while none of the remaining 111 patients did. Diarrhoea was a prodromal feature of the pancreatitis in those patients with evidence of viral disease. Screening patients with a...

Influencing Factors on COVID-19 Infection Despite Protective Measures Among Orthopedic Residents: Air Ventilation and Contact Duration

Despite all protective measures, the number of contacts and cumulative contact duration in the frontline screening seem to be the influencing factors. Three out 5 of our first year orthopedic residents showed symptoms of the disease 2-3 weeks after starting their tasks in the COVID-19 floor. Other residents that were only visiting patients in the COVID floor did not become symptomatic which als...

Antenatal and Postnatal Diagnosis of Coxsackie B4 Infection: Case Series

Enteroviruses are a common cause of neonatal infection. In particular, Coxsackie B viruses are often associated with severe, fatal disease. The antenatal diagnosis of Coxsackie B viral infections is uncommon. We present a unique case of Coxsackie B4 virus ventriculitis and myocarditis causing fetal hydrops at 22 weeks gestation. Transmission was inferred by viral isolation from the amniotic flu...

Hepatitis and Encephalitis due to Coxsackie Virus A9 in an Adult

Coxsackie virus infection most commonly manifests itself in the neonatal period as a multisystem disease. This life-threatening neonatal infection has been recently treated with a new anti-picornaviral drug, pleconaril. In contrast, in adults Coxsackie virus is an uncommon source of hepatitis, but Coxsackie virus type B has been described in case reports to cause hepatitis. This is the first ca...
